INTERNATIONAL AUTOMOTIVE TASK FORCE (IATF)

IATF 16949 Automotive Industry Quality Management Systems
In conjunction with ISO 9001, IATF 16949 defines the quality management system requirements for the design and development, production and, when relevant, installation and service of automotive-related products.

IATF 16949 was first developed by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) in conjunction with ISO’s technical committee for quality management, ISO/TC 176. As a result, IATF 16949 integrated with ISO 9001 by including specific requirements from the automotive sector.

IATF 16949 can be applied throughout the automotive supply chain. It is applicable to sites of the organization where customer-specified parts, for production and/or service, are manufactured.

The requirements are technically aimed at the development of a quality management system that provides for continual improvement, emphasizing defect prevention and the reduction of variation and waste in the automotive industry supply chain.

Benefits of IATF 16949
Certification to IATF 16949 offers plenty of benefit, which includes:

  • Enhances an organisation’s ability to achieve high-quality levels in the challenging automotive sector.
  • Recognised by major automotive manufacturers. Acts as a passport for major automotive manufacturers in the world to accept suppliers of automotive parts and components manufacturers.
  • Major automotive manufacturers refer to the IATF global database where certified organisations will be listed.
