What is British Retail Consortium?
British Retail Consortium The go-to trade association for all UK retailers, promoting the story of retail, shaping debates and influencing the issues that matter to the industry. This scheme is currently managed under BRCGS. The company was founded in 1996 by retailers who wanted to harmonize food safety standards across the supply chain.
BRCGS is a market-leading global brand that helps build confidence in the supply chain. This Global Standards are covering Food Safety, Packaging and Packaging Materials, Storage and Distribution, Consumer Products, Agents and Brokers, Retail, and Gluten Free. It is set to benchmark for good manufacturing practice and help provide assurance to customers that your products are safe, legal and of high quality.
BRCGS standards are highly recognized among the retailers and also GFSI. They are representing all retailers from large multiples through to independents. The BRCGS Global Standards support retailers and suppliers by providing a leading global product safety and quality certification program.
In a short space of time, this Standard became invaluable to other organizations across the sector. It was and still is regarded as the benchmark for best practice in the food industry. This and its use outside the UK has seen it evolve into a Global Standard used not just to assess retailer suppliers, but as a framework upon which many companies have based their supplier assessment programs and manufacture of branded products.
Currently the BRCGS standards are widely applied, where there are more than 28,000 certificated sites in 130 countries worldwide.
